During the winter break of my freshmen year, I traveled to Tijuana, Mexico to complete a service project with a non-profit organization, DOXA. This organization serves to aid low socioeconomic families in finding a stable home. In one week, a small group of volunteers, I being one of them, built a one story, three room house that could last for a minimum of 35 years. We provided them with plumbing and electrical supplies as well. This journey allowed me to expand my comfort zone. More than this, I was able to interact and see a glimpse of the great struggles this family faces. My eyes were opened the privileges I have and motivated me to work to better the lives of those in my community as I continue in high school and beyond.
