The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society

My freshmen year, I stumbled upon the Student of the Year campaign by the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. This campaign peaked my interest as cancer has affected by life, through my aunt, friend, and godmother. This campaign was seven weeks and motivated different candidate teams to raise money for blood cancer research and treatments. In the span of seven weeks, my team and I, Team ProCure, was able to raise 30,000 dollars. Through this ongoing journey, I not only connected with my community, but also improved my leadership and business skills. We also conducted a fundraising event: The Leukemia Luau. This event was conducted on the F5 company building and featured an indoor hawaii-themed carnival. At the end of this campaign our team was awarded the Mission Award which recognized individuals who spread the most awareness in various communities. After this campaign, I was selected to be in the Youth Leadership Committee and mentor incoming candidates in this campaign. For the past two years, I have mentored a total of four teams. As a mentor I was able to receive a personal satisfaction from making a difference to the campaign development. Through this ongoing journey, I connected with my community, and improved my leadership and business skills. Most importantly, involving myself in this organization allowed me to join the fight to stop this epidemic from ruining more lives.
